Personal Sites
Each faculty, staff member, and student is allowed 20 MB of personal webspace.
Personal web space is provided as a service to our community and is not a right. It is not intended for commercial use and we reserve the right to discontinue any and/or all use of this service for a particular user if problems arise. Do not place copyrighted material in your space unless you have written authorization that you can produce for us upon request; this includes photographic work that you did not create. In addition, any offensive or objectionable material found in your personal pages are grounds for removal of this service. This is an unsupported service for our community. We cannot provide individual support for creating and maintaining content in your personal space.
Obtaining Personal Web Space
You must have a UNIX account with OIS.
If you do not have a UNIX account you will need to go to OIS Client Services in Med School Wing B room 109 (M-F, 10am-2pm) with your One Card. They will help you fill out an application for a UNIX account. Note: If you are a medical student, you should already have a UNIX account.
The address to your new web space (once it's created) is http://www.med.unc.edu/~username (where username is your email user id, i.e. jmhahn or jdoe) .
All of your files need to be stored on the wwwpub directory/folder.
Your main/home page needs to named welcome.htm (not index.html).
The login (user id) and password for your web space is the same as the login and password for your SOM email account.
You have 20 MB of personal webspace.
Please direct questions or problems to OIS Client Services at help@med.unc.edu or 966-1325.
