Microsoft Lync 2010 Installers and Self-Help instructions.

Please select your OS, then you can download Lync and use the Self-Help instructions.

  • Download the installer for Lync 2010 for Windows and make sure to run it.
  • After the installer for Lync 2010 for Windows has finished the program will open. If your computer is joined to AD.UNC.EDU domain and you are logged in with your ONYEN Lync 2010 will auto-configure the connection. Now you have installed Lync and can start using all of the features.
  • If you are not joined to the AD.UNC.EDU domain you will need to manully setup the connection to the Lync 2010 server. Please following the next few steps:
    • After the installer has finished you will see the Lync program start box
       
    • In the Sign In Address field type your ONYEN@AD.UNC.EDU and click on the Sign In button.
    • Once you click the Sign In button the program will ask you to enter your User Name and Password, your Username needs to be entered like this: AD\ONYEN. Click on Sign In button again to complete the setup.
       
    • Congratulations, you have installed and configured Lync 2010 for Windows. Now you can add people to your Chat Contact List. Enjoy.
  • The installer for Lync 2010 can be found at smb://chat.unc.edu/Lync/.
  • After the installer for Lync 2010 for OSX has finished downloading you will need to double-click on the DMG file to open the installer.
  • Once the DMG file mounts you will be able to double click on the Lync 2010 installer. The installer will now start and we can installer Lync 2010.
  • The installer starts a Welcome message window, License Information window, and a pop-up asking if you really ok with the license agreement. Click Continue, Continue, and Agree..
  • With all of the license stuff done we can start selecting the options for the installers. In most cases you will just click Continue for the default options.
    • First option is where to install the app. Default location is on the Macintosh HD in the Applications folders. You can select a different path by why? Click on Continue to...continue and then Install..
    • Next we have the a pop up that ask for permission to install. Enter your computer's username and password if prompted.
    • After you have given the installer permission to install, you will get the "I have finished installing" window. Click the Close button and we can now setup Lync 2010.
  • Now that you have installed Lync 2010 you should have a new icon on your Dock. Click on the Lync 2010 icon to open the app and start the login process.
  • If first screen you will see is another license window... They ready want to make sure you understand the rules about using Lync 2010. Click Accept to continue
  • At last we have arrived at the end. We can now setup the connection to UNC Lync 2010 Chat server. Just enter your information like the image shows.
    • Email Address: onyen@ad.unc.edu
    • Sign in as: Automatic
    • User ID: onyen
    • Password: onyen Password
    • Do not click the check box for "Remember my Password". You will be asked to enter your password every time you start the Lync 2010 app. This is the best practice to use.
    • Click Sign In to start using the app.
    • At this point you have installed and configured Lync 2010. Enjoy.
  • Lync 2010 for iOS devices is a free download from the Apple App Store. Click on the App Store icon and then do a search for "Lync 2010". Click on "Microsoft Lync..." to open the infomaiton windows and then click on "Free/Install" button to download.
        
  • You should have the Microsoft Lync 2010 app downloaded and installed on your iOS device now. Find and click the icon so we can setup the Lync connetion.
  • Steps to setup the connection to UNC Lync chat server
    • Step 1 is to enter your user AD.UNC.EDU user information and password. This is your ONYEN@AD.UNC.EDU and ONYEN password. Click Sign In to continue.
        
    • After Lync has signed into the UNC Lync Server using your username and password you will be asked to enter a phone number. This phone number will be used to connect you to Lync Voice Meetings. You have to enter somethings here in order to continue so input your phone number. Right now this feature is not turned enabled on the server. The next screen is the "You're all set!" screen. You have downloaded, installed , and configured Lync 2010 for iOS devices.
        
    • You can now start using Lync to chat with anyone in the UNC Exchange system who has also setup Lync. Enjoy!
