Configuring Norton/Symantec for Automatic Updates
Manually Updating Symantec/Norton Antivirus:
To update your virus definition files, you must first open Norton/Symantec Antivirus. You can open Norton/Symantec Antivirus by clicking on the yellow shield located in the bottom right hand corner of your screen (shown below).
Please note: If there is a red circle or an exclamation point on your shield, there is a problem with your Norton or Symantec Antivirus. Please contact OIS Client Services at 919-966-1325 for more information.
You can also open Norton/Symantec by clicking on the Start Menu, selecting Programs. Depending on the version you have installed, look for either a Norton Antivirus or Symantec Client Security folder. Then click on the Norton or the Symantec Program icon.
From the Norton/Symantec Antivirus window, click on the LiveUpdate button.
Click on the Next button to proceed with updates.
When updates are complete, click on Finish.
Configuring Norton/Symantec for Automatic Updates:
First, open Norton/Symantec Antivirus using the steps outlined above. From the Norton/Symantec Antivirus Window, click on File, and select Schedule Updates.
From the Schedule Virus Definitions Updates window, click on the Schedule button.
Create the schedule of your choice for updates.
OIS recommends setting Automatic Updates on a daily schedule at a time convenient to you. Updates usually take less than two minutes to complete when using high speed internet, but may take longer if using dial-up.
