I received an email saying my password was about to expire. Which password is the email talking about?

If you received an email from the IT Response Center <help@unc.edu>:

The email is referring to your Onyen account password. Onyen is the name for the userid you use to gain access to various electronic resources offered by the Information Technology Services (ITS) group on main campus. It is an acronym for the "only name you'll ever need." Your onyen is used for many things, including accessing software on the University Shareware site at shareware.unc.edu, register for classes, find out your grades, or access the Main Campus calendars.

To reset your Onyen password, visit the following web site: onyen.unc.edu/cgi-bin/unc_id/chpw.pl If your password has expired, you can still access the above website to change your password, but you will not be able to use your Onyen to access any other Onyen-authenticated services until you change your password. Once your password is changed, it will work for another 90 days before it expires again. If you never use your Onyen, then disregard this notice.

If you received an email from request@med.unc.edu:

The email is referring to your School of Medicine identification (SOMid) password. Your SOMid is used for accessing on-line curriculum materials, creating mailing lists, and checking your email. To change your SOMid password, please refer to our site of somid.med.unc.edu.
